Monthly Trip: Shao lin trip

On the weekend of Dec 6th, World Link martial arts students set off for their Shaolin weekend trip. This time, the group was an all male team set in their sights of visiting the homeland of wushu. The arrival of World Link team was exciting with Henan province experiencing its first snow fall. The packed itinerary included a guided visit to the well-known Shoalin Temple, a boat cruise on China’s famous Yellow River, a Kungfu performance by Shaolin monks demonstrated the amazing wushu skills and strength using qigong. Students were given an afternoon of training by a Shaolin monk skilled in the art of wushu.

Weekend Activity: Peking Opera

Dec 13th, the students went to Liyuan Theater in Qian men Hotel to take in the sights and sounds of China’s famous traditional artthe Peking Opera. The origins of Peking Opera date back to the 12th century, when it was just troupes of players from around China who performed locally for large public audiences. Later, they congregated in the capital and their diversity resulted in new forms of opera. In Peking Opera, there are four major roles: sheng, dan, jing and chou, which represent males, females, vigorous male roles with painted faces, and the clown. The show in Liyuan theatre includes all the classic elements of the opera: singing, traditional instruments, vivid costumes, painted faces, and the choreographed gymnastics of soldiers and warriors.

Christmas Dinner

On Dec 20th, World Link students celebrated Christmas away from home, at the Harbour Plaza with a scrumptious Christmas Dinner ! Christmas carols were sung, delicious food enjoyed and a surprise with presents compliments of World Link given to students. It was lots of fun having the Christmas draw! Presents ranged from chopsticks, Chinese tea cups, to Peking ducks. . The prized Christmas gift was up for grabs as we competed in groups for the best sung Christmas song. Ken, Marshall, Kevin and Alton outdid others by singing their own version of "the Twelve Days of Christmas". Well done!
