To study at the Australian National University in Canberra, the ANU Access Program and Foundation Studies Program provide direct entry. Students who successfully complete one of the programs below, and who meet the academic entry requirements, are able to gain direct entry into the course of their choice without taking the IELTS or TOEFL test.
Duration: 10 weeks
Classes: approx. 25 hours per week
Class Times: 9:00am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday
Requirements: Students must have a conditional offer from the ANU AND IELTS: 6.0, TOEFL - computer based test: 210, paper based test: 550
This program is provided specifically for students who already have a conditional offer to either an ANU (Australian National University) undergraduate or postgraduate program. Students who complete the ANU Access program with a score over 60% will satisfy the English Language requirement for entry (equivalent to IELTS 6.5).
Topics that are relevant to academic discussion are included, as well as the skills necessary for fulfilling academic tasks. Emphasis is placed on the development of analytical and critical thinking, which are vital for success in tertiary studies. The course will comprise five major strands: Academic Listening, Academic Speaking, Academic Reading, Academic Writing and Study Skills. Classes also cover the structures of English and expand the general vocabulary of students. Additional course materials will include newspaper, journal, and magazine articles to inform students about Australian and international issues and to provide useful background for the students' future studies. Assessment may include various tasks such as oral presentations, essays, reports, and a final exam.

This program is an excellent pathway for university entry, offering many advantages for you when you decide to study in Australia. Students accepted into the Foundation Studies Program are allocated a provisional place at The Australian National University. Students who successfully complete the Foundation Studies Program and meet the University's required academic and English standards are guaranteed entry to their chosen undergraduate degree course*.
The Foundation Studies Program runs for 2 terms, consisting of 4 units per term. Units studied include Academic English combined with introductory subjects related to your degree. Some units in the Foundation Studies Program are university level courses and may be counted towards your undergraduate degree. For a list of Foundation Units, click here
