WLE Korean Language Immersion Programs

World Link Education's unique Korean Language Programs in Seoul are designed to provide total language immersion. Students who are new to Korean learn effective communication skills quickly; advanced students delve deeper into the intricacies of the language. To provide the most comprehensive curriculum, total programs combine core language classes with workshops and language exchange with native Korean speakers.

Aim

This immersion program has an integrated curriculum, providing students with the chance to learn much more than just the fundamentals of Korean grammar. We teach students how to integrate into Korean society, and how to interact with Korean people in both casual and formal situations. By combining our language lessons with the study of Korean culture and traditions, students are immersed in the Korean way of life.

The immersion programs integrate all aspects of the language: reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary. Accelerated teaching methods allow participants at lower proficiency levels to acquire the language skills needed for effective communication in a short period of time, and advanced students to gain expression proficiency at an abstract level. Topics studied include everyday situations as well as Korean culture, society, and history.

Location

Participants study in the heart of Seoul, in the city’s main business and financial district, conveniently located just a few minutes walk to nearby train stations such as Hong-ik University station. Also within walking distance are traditional Korean Palaces, antique streets, and many more cultural attractions waiting to be discovered.

2) Language Exchange Program
3) Language and Culture Workshops

These components are designed to allow participants to progress rapidly and gain fluency in the language.

1) Core Language Classes
Depending on the program duration, core language classes are offered at two locations:

  • The Academy of Korean Language & Culture
  • For short term programs (4 to 12 weeks) Core Language Classes are held at Seoul’s leading language institution, the Academy of Korean Language & Culture. The Academy was established specifically to teach Korean to international students and foreigners who live in Korea. The Academy has been selected because of its emphasis on accelerated learning with small classes and its outstanding language curriculum. This Academy is regarded as the optimal learning environment with excellent teaching methods and the latest teaching materials.
  • Yonsei University
  • For long term programs (1 term to an Academic Year) Core Language Classes are held at Yonsei University. With a long history of teaching Korean, this option is popular with participants who wish to study in a university atmosphere, with campus facilities. The campus provides various facilities to meet the needs of students including a fully equipped multi-media center, student lounge and library.
In both institutions, core language classes integrate all aspects of Korean including reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, phonetics and vocabulary. Class work focuses on developing oral expression, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. Listening and speaking skills are particularly emphasized to enable participants to attain communicative proficiency. Up-to-date materials are used to introduce modern day Korea, its social and economic life, culture, history, and literature.

2) Language Exchange Partners Program
Getting to know locals is an integral part of the program. It provides language and cultural interaction between participants and Korean students, marking the beginning of many lasting friendships. This program provides the perfect opportunity to practice the language and encourages cultural and social exchange. Participants schedule to meet with one another at their convenience.

3) Language and Culture Workshops
Designed to provide further immersion in the language and culture and encourage active use of Korean, a comprehensive curriculum of workshops is offered. These workshops encourage active participation, which deepens participants’ vocabulary and speaking proficiency, and further provides the opportunity to learn different aspects of Korean culture. Examples of workshops include calligraphy, cooking, Hanbok wearing, and traditional dance performances.
